Mark B. Hannum Operator of the Year Award

 

Description:  This award recognizes the operator that exemplifies the highest qualities and integrity of the water quality profession.  This award is in memory of Mark B. Hannum, past president of PWEA and Director of Operations and Maintenance at ALCOSAN.  Mark was highly regarded and respected by water quality professional in all areas of the industry.
 
Award Criteria:  The award recipient will be selected based not just on the operations of their facility but their contribution to the water quality profession. 
 
Eligibility:  The nominee must be a Pennsylvania certified wastewater or collection system operator for the last five consecutive years.  They must be a member of PWEA or one of the local member associations.  An operator may only receive this award once.
 
Nomination Process:  The PWO committee is responsible for reviewing nominations and making (a) recommendation(s) to the Awards Committee.  The Awards Committee is responsible for making the final selection of the award recipient.
 
The nomination packet for each Operator of the Year candidate must include:
 
1. Title Page: date, name and title of the nominee, name and contact information of the individual submitting this nomination, name and address of the plant and/or collection system, is this individual is the operator of record, and their certification Class and Subclass.
 
2. Plant Description as appropriate: type, degree of treatment, capacity, description of their system, receiving waters, flow diagram, pump stations and collection system operated by the nominee.
 
3. Plant Operation: brief description of the process control strategy used by the nominee, sampling & testing program, plant compliance record summary for last 36 months (include the number SSOs & CSOs).
 
4. Applicant Information: photo, supplemental information limited to six pages including pictures, letters of recommendation, special awards, how the application has demonstrated ingenuity and
proficiency, major contributions to improve operations, innovations, how this operator has given back to the water quality profession, etc.

 

Applications may be submitted to pwea@pwea.org and must be received no later than December 31st.
